As both an author and a reader, I’m a huge fan of both paranormal romance and urban fantasy. It all started with vampires and
werewolves, and while I will always have a soft spot in my heart for shapeshifters (are my
Changelings listening?), it’s been exciting to see the explosion of
supernatural creatures in these genres. Among them are warrior angels and their exact opposites – fallen angels and demons. The battle between good and evil has
never been more fascinating!
I tend to favor the bad boys, myself – the anti-heroes, the
unlikely and the reluctant heroes. Oh yes, give me a reformed demon like Dax in Kate Douglas's Demonfire over an angel (even the droolworthy warrior types) any day.
One of my all-time fav UF authors is Karen Chance. I really enjoy her Cassie Palmer series, and as much as I like the heroine, it’s the host of other characters that populate the stories that appeal to me. Vamps for sure, demons and incubi galore …
the line between good guys and bad guys gets pretty blurry. And maybe that's why the bad boys appeal to me so much -- they're more complicated, and therefore a little more realistic to me. Life has a lot of gray areas and most people aren't totally "good" or totally "bad". In fact, good and bad are often a matter of perspective, a point that this series drives home.
There are two main men in Cassie’s life – one is a vamp (considered a demon in some circles), and the other is a wizard who just happens to be a human-demon hybrid. The motives of each are suspect more often than not, and yet both find it within themselves to be selfless and heroic on occasion. I find myself rooting for both of them, and it's no wonder Cassie has such difficulty choosing between them.

If I had to pick a favorite demon, however, it would have to be
Jim. Jim is a demon eternally stuck in the form of a dog, and he is the loyal (and rather cranky)
sidekick of Aisling Grey in Katie MacAlister’s Guardian series. Not only is Jim a dog, but a Newfoundland, one of the biggest – and drooliest – breeds.
Jim is the ultimate supporting character, providing comic relief and snarkiness, yet showing touching loyalty
and friendship. Jim has Aisling’s back when the sh** hits the fan – which seems
to happen a great deal in her complicated life. Not bad for a fiend of hell.

Can I choose both? Lol!My favourite angel books at the moment are the Fallen books in which I'm a fan of both Daniel (the good angel) and Cam & Roland (the demon angels). One of my fave angels in any series at the moment though is Lassiter from the Brotherhood of the black dagger books! His humour in the last book made him grow on me big time but my favourite demon is from the Dark Hunter books - is Xypher! I love his sarcasm and how much of a bad boy he is!
ReplyDeletesuzi1811 (at) fsmail (dot) net
Lassiter is such a hoot! I'm waiting to hear more about him.
DeleteHot Angel. My favorite is the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh.
ReplyDeletebacchus76 at myself dot com
That series ROCKS!
DeleteMy favorite angels are Raphael and Ilium from The Guild Hunters Series by Nalini Singh. I prefer angels, it feels more sinful! Oh la la! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteilepachequin(at)hotmail(dot)com
ROFL - I never thought of it like that! Good one!
DeleteEither :) And I think my favorite demons so far are the ones from Larissa Ione's Demonica series, the ones who introduced me to these unexpected heroes :)
ReplyDeletef dot chen at comcast dot net
Book 1 is on my TBR pile beside my bed!
DeleteDani, thanks for the mention of Dax, my reformed Demon. I love making the bad guys just good enough to be sexy. Favorites lately? Joey Hill's new Witches series has some amazing dark heroes, a little demonic, a little angelic, a whole lot sexy. Erin Kellison's newest book, Fire Kissed, has just about the sexiest bad boy angel I've ever read--Jack Bastien is STILL stuck in my head.
ReplyDeleteI've read the Cassie Palmer series because a wonderful reader sent all of them to me when I said I really didn't have time. And no, I didn't but I still read every one and really enjoyed them.
I do love those bad boys, especially when they can be redeemed. Married one of my own over 40 years ago. He's still a work in progress...
No need to add me for the drawing--I've got all your books, Dani!
Joey Hill and Erin Kellison are new to me -- I'm going to have fun checking them out! (And PS, I hear you on the bad boy thing - I have a scoundrel too! Love him to bits!)
DeleteI agree with Lassiter from the BDB by JR Ward. And Demons would be form Demonica series.
ReplyDeleteLarissa Ione also has some hot Angels in her Fallen Angels series as well. Thanks for the opportunity.

ReplyDeleterwschwarz11ATgmailDOTcom
Illeum is a huge favorite!
Deleteas long as he is my soulmate i'm not difficult he can be either but from the choice you spoke of i prefer the demon hybrid from cassandra palmer series^^ ( hum he is so funny and protective)

Pritkin is complicated character and I really enjoy him.

DeleteAngels!!!! My favorite angel is Galen from Nalini Singh Guild Hunter series:)
ReplyDeletemalgorzata.rejkowicz83@gmail.com

DeleteDEMONS!!! I love the internal battle within ones self between love and the evil. What a great giveaway thanks :)

I've heard that Lassiter will get his own book as part of the BDB series --- that should be interesting!
DeleteI love Angels and Demons! Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series is my favourite also the Demonica series for hot Demons, I couldn't just pick one.
ReplyDeleteirgl7(at)bonzo15(dot)plus(dot)com
It's hard when they can both be so hot! Still leaning to the dark side myself but can't help admiring the ones with wings, LOL.
DeleteI haven't read that many angel or demon books yet. Hmm, I think Jaye Wells' Giguhl has to be my fave demon ever!
ReplyDeleteI've been considering her Sabina Kane series. Which book does Giguhl appear in?
DeleteHe's in all of them :-) He's bound to Sabina. Awesome series.
DeleteI can't pick. I like both. Like Gena Sowalter's demons in LOTU series and JR Wards angels in her Fallen Angels.
ReplyDeleteMegblod@yahoo.com
Powerful characters all!
DeleteDemons are my favorite. I really like the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletenatasha_donohoo_8 at hotmail dot com
Yay, a vote for demons!
DeleteI like both. A little good and a little bad. My favorite angel would have to be Castiel from Supernatural. My favorite demon would have to be Ruby from Supernatural. Do you see a theme. I love that show. Love Sam and Dean, and all the rest of the cast. What a great giveaway and a fun hop.
ReplyDeleteChristinebails@yahoo.com
Excellent choices, both! Castiel ROCKS, and I think Ruby's pretty great too -- do you like the original Ruby or the new one that replaced her? I LOVE Supernatural - just heard it's going to have a Season EIGHT!!!!
Deletesomething about a bad boy gets me every time ;) thanks for participating in the hop! love your blog header!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Thanks for co-hosting the hop. :)
DeleteI'd cozy up with a angel. Fav is Rapheal from the Guild Hunter Series.
ReplyDeleteI think he might be the most popular of her angels.
DeleteHmmm, my favorite Angel is Eve, from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. In life, she was the daughter of a demon and a witch; in death, she works as an Angel for the Fates, but her behavior is nobody's idea of angelicc. :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite demon is Samael from Jodi Redford's Getting Familiar with Your Demon. He's sexy, smart, snarky, occasionally obnoxious, with a bit of a gentleman hiding underneath.
Email: beasbooknook AT gmail DOT com
I like the sounds of Eve -- going to check that one out. Samuel sounds intriguing too!
DeleteI really enjoyed Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker series. Her take on demons was so unique that it was refreshing ;)
ReplyDeletesionedkla@gmail.com

ReplyDeletelaceyblossom1(at)gmail(dot)com
I'm starting the Demonica series now. :)
DeleteOh yes! I love Karen Chance's books too and I think that demon that runs the Vegas hotel is a hoot! My other favs are Kresley Cole's Demons and Gena Showalter's Lords and Angels. I don't really have a preference for angels or demons stories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the hop and for the giveaway opportunity.
sophiarose1816@gmail.com

I hear only fabulous things about that trio.
Deletelove the Fallen Angel series by JR Ward Gale
ReplyDeletepgan427@yahoo.com
I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood (and Lassiter). I haven't had a lot of luck in getting into her angel series yet. I have the first book -- I'll have to try again.

They'd probably compete with each other to please you!
DeleteI can't choose, I love them both! My favorite demon books are the Demonica series. My favorite angel book so far is Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter. Although, I do love that snarky angel Lassiter from the BDB series.
ReplyDeletemolly(dot)frenzel(at)gmail(dot)com
Lassiter rules. I love it when he watches Oprah and Maury on TV.
DeleteI want both!! 2 is better than 1 right?!? A little Nice and a little Naughty! Can't get any better.
ReplyDeleteMel

Separately or at the same time? LOL
DeleteI love bad boy angels. Nalini Singh's Guild hunters series is my fav. The angels create vamps & rule the world, all while being sexy as hell.

DeleteI would say a fallen angel...little bad with the good! I love the Fallen Angels series and the Lords of the Underworld series so it is hard to choose one!
ReplyDeletePhoenixCarvelli at gmail dot com
I think that's probably the best of both worlds - a fallen angel!
DeleteDemons and Angels! Love them both.
ReplyDeletegraczykowski@sbcglobal.net
Hard to resist either one, especially with some of the fantastic authors out there!
DeleteI want a sexy Angel. I don't read many Angel Demon books so I don't have a favorite character at the moment.
ReplyDeletepenumbrareads(at)gmail(dot)com
Have you checked out Sylvia Day's angels?

ReplyDeleteThanks for the amazing giveaway!
elizabeth @ bookattict . com
I've GOT to check out Jacqueline Frank's books - that's three commenters in a row who like them!
DeleteI prefer angels, but I don't have a favorite. Thanks for participating in the hop! emily joy drake at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI love hops -- really glad to join in as many as I can!
DeleteActually I would prefer something different in a way. I like seeing the different aspects and perspectives on both "species" In folklore, not all demons are evil. And in some depictions, not all angels have compassion for humans just compassion for what they are told to do. That is what interests me more. novels with a demon that is more compassionate, or an Angel who is a fierce warrior, Those are the kinds of novels that really perk me up to read it. Don't get me wrong I love a bad demon, But sometimes I love to be surprised. So I can't choose between the two but I do like different variations of them in romance because it's stimulating. It's not predictable.
ReplyDeletetote bagggggggggggsssssssss! woooooooooooooooooooo!
Thaigherlillie@yahoo.com
Really thoughtful comment - I agree!
DeleteI prefer dark and tortured heroes so I choose demons. I love characters that can be redeemed.
ReplyDeletegeishasmom73 AT yahoo DOT com
My favorite too - characters to be redeemed.
DeleteYou just gotta luv a bad boy - so lets go with the demon with a heart of gold :) Thank you for participating in the fun hop.
ReplyDeletedz59001[at]gmail[dot]com
I love that description - "demon with a heart of gold"!
DeleteWhen asked if I'd rather cuddle with an angel or demon, I've been thinking angel, because a demon would be more likely to want to do other thinks ;). I'd forgotten about Jim! He's one of my favorite things about the Aisling Grey series and would be an awesome cuddler!!! Just another reason to love demons! I also love Al from Kim Harrison's Hallows series!
ReplyDeletesnhoveln At gmail Dot com
Kim Harrison has a fabulous series going -- I'm so stoked to see Blood Work as a graphic novel. http://www.kimharrison.net/BookPages/BW/BloodWork.html
DeleteDefinitely hot angel. I love Nalini Singh's series.
ReplyDeletemythic021@gmail.com
I love both, but I am more of a demon girl. My faves are the sexy demon brothers from Larissa Ione's Demonica series...YUM!
ReplyDeleteI really need to read the Aisling Grey books. I love her Dark Ones series.
manning_j2004 at yahoo dot com
I enjoy Katie MacAlister no matter what she's writing. Her Dark Ones series was my first introduction to her and I've been hooked ever since!
DeleteI love Dax! I have the Katie MacAlister series in my TBR pile, knowing about Jim I may have to read that series next!
ReplyDeleteAs for me I want them both. One on each side of me! As for some of my favorites Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter. the series has both angels and demons!
beckerjo at verizon dot net
Isn't Dax cool? Kate Douglas rocks! Hope you enjoy the Aisling Grey series -- there's lots of other characters besides Jim to fall in love with!
DeleteDani, don't enter me for your contest as I have all your books and a tote.
ReplyDeleteI found that I liked Adrian Phoenix's Makers Song series. It's really dark and amazing. I haven't read the last book yet because I want to wait for the next book to come out because there is such a cliff hanger(I sneak peeked)..Anyway I want to cuddle up with Arik from The Demonica/Horseman series from Larissa Ione. He doesn't have wings but he's hot...
koonie2888 at yahoo dot com
Hi Michelle! The Makers Song series is brand new to me --- I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the heads up on that.
DeleteI like demons. I like the demons from the Lords of the Underworld series.
ReplyDeletebn100candg(at)hotmail(dot)com
I like Gena Showalter's concept for this series -- it's fantastic!
DeleteWow, those are some great book covers. I've enjoyed reading a number of them.
ReplyDeleteAs for Angel or Demons, I'm a both kind of gal. I'm good with any kind of sexy, tortured heroes. lol
Stacey_dvn (at) yahoo (dot)com
Tortured heroes are often the most interesting. There has to be an extra level of growth and change in the character development. I really enjoyed writing James Macleod's story (Changeling Dream) for that reason.
DeleteFirst off, I just bought Ascension a few weeks ago! I actually met the author at the beginning of June!
ReplyDeleteI'm siding with Angels! With a bad boy attitude! Best of both worlds! Plus, soft wings for cuddling and keeping me warm!
I like Deena Remiel's Trinity, Out in Blue by Sarah Guilman, The Keepers by Monique O'connor James, and many more!
kristinaleigh1@hotmail.com
Fallen Angels! Okay, maybe demons. I love bad boys! :D Thank you for the awesome giveaway!
